Instagram profile pictures are uploaded as squares but displayed as circles. A composition that looked fine as a square can lose its corners and look off once it's cropped into a circle.

Don't upload a small image just because it displays small. Instagram scales it down for each screen, so a large, sharp original stays crisp whenever someone taps to enlarge it.
Common problems with the circular crop
- A logo or text near the corners of the square disappears once it's cropped into a circle. Keep anything important inside the circle at the center.
- Shoulders or the top of the head touching the corners get cut awkwardly. Centering the face with a little room above and below reads more naturally.
- Designs with scattered elements (like a text logo plus an icon) tend to lose their balance in a circle. A simple, centered composition is the safer bet for a profile picture.
How to check the circular crop in prezll
- Upload your profile photo to prezll.
- Open the Crop tool and choose the Instagram 1:1 preset.
- Move the face or logo to the center of the crop frame. In particular, keep the four corners of the frame empty of anything important, since that area falls outside the circle.
- Use Resize to scale to 1080 × 1080px, then download.
After uploading, check how it actually looks as a circle in the app, and come back to prezll to reposition it if needed.
