Each place that asks for an ID photo has its own size and file-size limit. A photo that does not fit can be blocked at upload or rejected in review, so check the issuing office's own guidance before you submit.
| Submission | Size | File | Background and shooting rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passport (online application) | 3.5x4.5cm, 413x531px recommended (uploads accepted at 395-431px wide and 507-550px tall) | JPG/JPEG, up to 500KB, 300dpi recommended | White background, taken within 6 months, head length (crown to chin) 3.2-3.6cm |
| Resident registration card | 3.5x4.5cm | No file-size rule on the guidance page | Color, upper body, facing front, no hat, taken within 6 months; no background or white recommended |
| Q-net (national technical qualification exams) | 3.5x4.5cm (per the application notes) | JPG/JPEG, up to 200KB | Color, upper body, facing front, no hat, taken within 6 months, plain background |
| Resume or job application | Varies by posting (some postings ask for 3x4cm) | Varies by site and posting | Follow the posting |
These details were checked on 29 October 2026 against the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs passport site, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Q-net. Official guidance can change, so check the page or the application screen again right before you submit.
Printing commonly assumes 300dpi. At that density 3.5x4.5cm is 413x531px and 3x4cm is 354x472px. The online passport application recommends 413x531px, so a 3.5x4.5cm photo can be used as it is.
The Q-net application notes list a 3.5x4.5cm photo, while its photo-registration guide says to prepare either an ID photo (2.5x3.5cm) or a half-portrait (3x4cm). The guide gives the file limit as 200KB. Because the pages differ, confirm on the real application screen that your photo uploads.
There is no single official size for resumes. If the posting states a size and file limit, follow it. If it does not, 3x4cm or 3.5x4.5cm are the common choices.
